Dear Fellow Residents

As many of you will be aware, Joan Holmes who very sadly died earlier this year was the Chair of the Parish Meeting. For those of you who don't know, the Parish Meeting is a small part of the local authority which you pay for via your Council Tax. It is nothing to do with the Church Parish or any other community groups in either Lower or Upper Dunsforth. The Parish Meeting spends your money on things like verge cutting, benches, notice boards, flood and other emergency response work etc. Every resident of this civil parish is entitled and invited to attend a meeting to decide what we want to spend our money on. 

Unfortunately, without a Chair or Vice-Chair a Parish Meeting can only be called by 6 or more electors agreeing to do so. We need to have a meeting urgently, primarily to approve the accounts of the Parish and to avoid our money being wasted on paying fines and penalties for non-compliance. This meeting needs to be held in June.

The purpose of this message is to ask for your support in convening a meeting. If you are willing to put your name to a notice convening a meeting then please could you let me know by replying to this email at dunsforthvm@gmail.com. I will handle the admin (what, when, where, communication etc) so you don't need to commit to anything beyond your name at this stage. 

I look forward to hearing back from enough of you but if we can't get enough names together then I'll notify the principal authority, North Yorkshire Council, and the external auditors accordingly.
